Lotus Root Tea

Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn.), a well-known aquatic plant of family Nelumbonaceae, has been widely cultivated for food production, ornamental horticulture and traditional Asian medicine in China, Korea, Japan and India.

Lotus rhizomes are composed of proteins, fats, carbohydrates and minerals and are good source of energy. The lotus rhizomes are popularly used as vegetables.

Some pharmacological potentials of the ethanol- and methanol-soluble extracts of lotus root, including antioxidant, immunomodulatory, antiobesity, hypoglycemic, psychopharmacological and memory improving activities, are proposed to be closely related to phenolic compounds.

Lotus root is rich in nutrients and contains both fibre and complex carbohydrates. These two components work together to help manage your body’s cholesterol and blood sugar. Fibre and complex carbohydrates also help maintain a slow and steady digestive process. They also help to lower blood pressure and also helps to boost the immunity system.

It also helps to prevent some forms of cancer, balances your mood, helps to relieve depression, increases the blood pressure and also helps to maintain the proper enzymatic activity in your body.

Grate the fresh lotus root and squeeze the juice from it. Add 2-3m drops of ginger juice or ginger powder. Then add a pinch of salt. Add an equal amount of water, and boil. The tea is ready.
