Coconut water for health

The coconut is the fruit of the coconut palm, a tree belonging to the large Palmaceae family, that is thought to have originated in Southeast Asia and Melanesia islands in the Pacific Ocean.

Coconut water is juice in the coconut. Coconut water filled the cavity center of the fruit.  Coconut water begins to form about 3 months after fertilization and reaches a maximum at 8 months after fertilization then declines. The coconut water is of cytoplasmic origin but in mature coconut there are no free cells.

The coconut water has a maximum of 6% soluble solids, 8-9 months after fertilization. Coconut water is very easy to digest, which makes it an ideal baby food. It is reported that in the World War II and in the Vietnam War coconut water was injected when there was no blood serum available.

Coconut water is cheap and easily available in coastal century areas. The fact that it is high in potassium makes it an ideal re-hydration liquid for intravenous administration of gastroenteritis and diarrhea.

The main reason why coconut water is such an energy giving, anti-ageing drinks is the content of strong alkalizing minerals, naturally balanced in calcium, magnesium, potassium, chlorine and sodium.

It can be used to treat heart, liver and kidney disease. This is beneficial in case of general dropsy, scanty urination with acidic contents, morning sickness during pregnancy, intestinal infections, albuminuria, gonorrhea, etc.

The best coconut water comes from the premature green coconut, when the meat is in the early stages as a jelly like substance. It is preferred as a beverage in coconut growing regions because it has a better flavor and is sweeter.

Tender coconut water can be mixed in milk and given to infants to provide relief from vomiting, constipation and indigestion. Tender coconut water along with a pinch of turmeric powder, and an equal quantity of slake lime water works as a good soothing ointment for burns.
